Task

Find a new programmatic basis to start a discussion about the development possibilities of the former outdoor water sports pool under the Barrandov Terraces.

What a former container for water and social life set in a very complex environment - mixture of industry, landscape exploitation, iconic history, on the periphery, in-between major traffic veins – is able to contain again? What is the container – the pool, the quarry or the iconic framework? Is the ruin a state that is meant to be overcome or could it become a vital part of the project?

Description

The project utilizes potential of the whole old quarry space. Pool, as an iconic ruin, is actually being sunken in the newly built dam reservoir. There the pool is always changing from a hidden state to being exposed. The new area creates different view on the city. Water is still present at the site but unlike the old pool, water level in the dam is in the sunlight during whole day. That creates opportunities to use the dam as a lake in some occasions.
